READING // COSTUME_Book Dump

A spot to put all of the I found/downloaded in one place for easy reference if you want to research further on a particular topic.

I've finished a main part of the FASHION pages for Ladies and Men but I'll probably be adding important pages from these books in those posts, so remember to look out for updates on those pages.

(I've posted VOLUME 1 of this series in the REF // DACIAN_HAIR post for "Ancient" Civilisations)

This is a really, really informative book. Has a focus on Medieval European fashions as well as other cultures of the time.

FOCUS ON:
PAGES 151-181

Fabrics
Fashion Basics (coats, gowns, hosiery etc.)
Knights' Fashion (tabards, pourpoints)
Headware
Hairstyles
Jewellery
Make Up
Gloves (very important for higher-ups!)
Footwear

Really good "overview" book.
Not that great for photo/picture refs but still a lot of good written info.

FOCUS ON:
PAGES 26 - 35

High Fashion
Middle Class Fashion
Lower Class Fashion
Opinions of fashion held at the time
Amour overview

Odd little book but very helpful. I didn't read it until I had finished my blog pages but I'll definitely add it in later. Don't be thrown by Spamalot on the cover, it focuses on how films and tv get it right and wrong, and the writing style is down to earth too.

(But it does have a bit of the C14th stuff in there too, which is a little bit early/outdated for us)

FOCUS ON:
ALL

Source list of related films/shoes/musicals etc. set at the time
Materials
Foreign Influences
Women's Fashion (change for C14 to C15)
Fabrics
Colours!
Hairstyles
Noblemen (that illustration is still early C15, so the hem will probably be shorter for 1478)
Headware
Knights Fashion
Common People Fashion
Fun Facts like "no pockets"
Costumes for Roles in Society (such as jesters, cooks, robin hoods etc.)
